The Amish Country Half is getting back to live racing in 2021!

For your convenience all 2020 Registrants are automatically rolled into the 2021 races as promised.

2021 COVID-19 SAFETY PLAN

In an effort to provide safe, responsible, and in-person racing during the “COVID-ERA”, the Amish Country Half Marathon team has developed the enclosed plan to ensure proper social distancing and safety for all competitors. Our end goal is to provide an unforgettable race experience from start to finish for the participant (YOU), raise funds for adoption and other orphan care ministries, let you experience the beauty of running Amish Country, make sure you get those HOT BUTTERED NOODLES at the finish line you deserve, and ultimately keep you safe while doing so. With those goals in mind, our team has examined each piece of the event and made adaptations accordingly. Please see below for the details.

Packet Pick-Up:

In order to ensure that there will not be long lines and large groups indoors at packet pick-up we are providing the following solutions:

  1. Packet pick-up will be held outdoors at Grace Church (https://www.allaboutgrace.org)
  2. You can pick up your packet on Friday September 10 from 10:00am-7:00pm and on race day September 11 from 5:30am-7:00am
  3. To help us with long lines, congestion, and simply to make our lives easier please try and pick up your packet on Friday if at all possible!
  4. We will be using a “touchless” method for packet pick-up. This simply means all your items (Bib, Pins, SWAG) will be individually packaged in a large ziplock baggie and placed on a table in alphabetical order by race distance. When you arrive, you can simply walk up to the table and retrieve your own packet.
  5. We will have everything clearly marked with signage as well as a few volunteers to help with questions to make sure the experience goes smoothly.

Start Line:

Traditionally we have a large group at the start line of the ACHM, but with this not being socially responsible in 2021, we have instituted the following precautions to ensure proper social distancing at the start line area.

  1. Staggered race start times will be as follows:
  1. Half Marathon will start at 7:30am
  2. 10k will start at 7:45am
  3. 5k will start at 8:00am
  4. ALL race distances will be sent off in waves based on your predicted pace. Simply find the corral of the predicted pace you plan to run and enter it. Each corral will be roped off with clear signage of predicted pace. The fastest runners will go first followed by the next fastest and so on until everyone is on the course. We will use past race finishing times to make sure every runner in a corral can properly social distance as they start the race. Wave starts have been a very successful way for races to continue in-person racing during Covid as it certainly thins the traffic both at the start line and on the course. Thanks in advance for your part in helping us make these wave starts a success!
  5. Face Covering. We ask that all runners wear a proper facial covering in all race areas prior to race start. As part of our race SWAG package we will be giving each runner a custom Amish Country Half face gator!  Once you cross the start line, you DO NOT need to wear a facial covering anywhere on the course.

Course:

  1. With staggered race start times by distance and wave starts in effect, traffic on the course will be spaced out nicely. We ask that each runner be mindful when passing other runners, or if someone is passing you, to be considerate and give proper spacing.
  2. Aid Stations- We will have the same amount of on-course aid stations as in the past. Each aid station will have individual/unopened bottles of water as well as energy gels. Trash cans will be spaced on the course after aid stations so please make sure to put your trash in the bins instead of tossing them to the side. Our goal is to limit touch points for the runner as well as the volunteer. PLEASE note we will not have electrolyte drinks like Gatorade available on the course so plan accordingly.

Finish Line:

  1. Finisher’s medal- Upon completion of your race, you’ll be presented with your finisher’s medal at the “medal tables” located near the finish line. We will set the medals out on tables for each race distance. Each distance will be clearly marked. Simply find the table with the race distance you ran and pick up your well earned finisher’s medal!
  2. Food- We will still have all the food at the finish line you have come to expect when running the ACHM! All food will be pre-packaged in a box from Walnut Creek Cheese and handed to you. We will definitely also be serving our hot buttered noodles from local Amish restaurants!
  3. Once you have picked up your medal and enjoyed your post race food, you are free to hang around and watch the race, but we would ask that you move away from the finish line area to allow other runners who are finishing to have adequate space.
  4. When not eating or drinking, please remember to wear your sweet new face covering you just got in your SWAG bag!

Awards:

  1. In a traditional format, we would do the awards ceremony live near the finish line. This year we will be mailing out all prize money for top overall finishers and age group award winners to avoid congestion.

Spectators:

  1. There is a lot of extra space at Grace Church and The Behalt for spectators to spread out. If you do bring a spectator along please have them find a place to watch that isn’t near the start/finish line area as that is where our space tends to get more congested.

Our team is excited to once again be hosting the Amish Country Half Marathon, and showing you the beauty of running our small back roads here in Holmes County Ohio!  We look forward to seeing each one of you again, and greatly appreciate your kindness and patience, even if things look a little different right now. Thank you for trusting that our plan will keep you safe, and remaining flexible when things may change along the way.

Most importantly thank you for helping us support our great causes in Pure Gift of God, East Holmes local fire department, and Rescue 58:12

If you have questions about this plan please contact me at brent@runinamishcountry.com  so we can get your questions answered.

All proceeds from the Amish Country Half Marathon, 10k and 5k benefit Pure Gift of God, a local organization that helps fund adoptions all over the US and East Holmes Fire & EMS.

There will be professional photographers on the course to provide you with free photos of your epic race day experience!

Start your day off by running the race, and stick around for the Ribfest and Harvest Festival Parade in downtown Berlin!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the time limit for the races?

Our races are walker friendly.  You will have 4 hours to complete the half marathon and 10k races.  If you are not able complete the race in this time, you will be offered the option of receiving a ride back to the start/ finish line, or continue the race unassisted.

Can I transfer my bib to someone else if I am unable to make the race?

No.  There is no transferring of bibs allowed.  Transferring bibs may result in disqualification.

Can I transfer my registration to next year?

Because of the unique circumstances surrounding this year’s race, runners who registered for the 2020 race who are automatically entered into the 2021 race may request a deferral to the 2022 race if they prefer this option.

Can I get a refund if I get injured, hospitalized or am under trained prior to the race?

No, all ticket sales are final. We can not offer refunds for any reason.  We incur costs with each participant registered so we are not able to offer any refunds.  If you are unable to make it on race day, you can rest assured your investment will be given to a great cause, in the hands of the race’s beneficiaries.

Am I able to switch races? (i.e.: I signed up for the Half Marathon, but only want to run the 10k now):

If there are registration spots available in the race you wish to transfer to, we will be happy to do that for you. Such transfers will be accepted until August 1, 2020. Please do not plan to transfer on race day. Please note, there will not be any partial refunds given for those who sign up for the Half and choose to run a lesser distance race. Also, in order to receive the Half Marathon goodie box from local Amish Country businesses, you must complete the Half Marathon. If you choose to transfer to another race you do not receive the Half Marathon items. We are also unable to transfer your registration to a longer distance (i.e.: you sign up for the 5k, but decide you want to run the 10k or half. In this instance we cannot complete the transfer).

Can I get my award sent to me if I leave prior to awards?

Awards will be sent out for this year’s race as referenced in the Covid 19 safety plan.

Can I get my shirt, packet, bib, medal, swag, etc. if I am unable to run the race?

No. Runners must pick up all packets and bibs before the race at assigned times. They must complete the race to receive any medals, prizes, shirts, packets, boxes. There will be no items available for mailing or pickup after the race.

I signed up for the wrong shirt size. Will there be exchanges available?
